Method and Madness Mezcal Cask is Irish whiskey at its most adventurous — a cask strength Whisky Exchange exclusive that marries the smoothness of Irish distilling with the smoky earthiness of mezcal-seasoned oak, and somehow makes it work.

You won't find another Irish whiskey that tastes like this. The mezcal cask adds something almost savoury — think grilled citrus and mineral smoke rather than peaty smoke. It's not my everyday pour at that price point but I don't regret buying it. Would love to try this at a lower ABV too.

Grabbed this on a whim from The Whisky Exchange and I'm so glad I did. The mezcal influence is subtle but adds this gorgeous smoky-savoury backbone to what's otherwise a fruity, rich Irish spirit. Cask strength at 60% and it barely needs water. Absolute cracker.

I appreciate what they're going for but the mezcal influence dominates too much for me. I kept wanting more of the Irish whiskey character to come through and it just didn't. The finish is long and peppery which I did enjoy. Might work better with ice but I prefer my Irish neat.

Method and Madness always swing for the fences and I respect that. The mezcal cask gives it an unusual earthy smoke that's nothing like peat — more like roasted agave and dried chilli. Not something I'd drink every night but it's a great conversation bottle for when mates come over.
