Method and Madness Japanese Chestnut Cask Finish is a genuinely experimental whisky that delivers on its promise — unusual wood, smart bottling strength, and a price that reflects real innovation rather than just hype.

The Japanese chestnut cask gives this a really distinctive nuttiness on the nose — roasted chestnuts and a hint of dried fruit. At 48% it carries some heat but nothing harsh, and there's a lovely sweetness underneath that reminds me of honeycomb. Genuinely different from anything else on my shelf.

I enjoyed sipping this neat and the chestnut influence is real — you get this warm, slightly tannic woodiness that's unlike typical bourbon finishes. But at £90 I expected a bit more depth on the palate. It's good, just not blow-me-away good for the money.
