Palate

Full-bodied yet silky — raisins, apricots, orange peel, milk chocolate, vanilla, oak, nutmeg — creamy velvety mouthfeel from the 16 cask types

Finish

Long and darkly sweet — overripe fruit, oak tannins, lemon zest, trailing pepper spice — the complexity from 16 cask types lingering

Expert Review

8/10

Only 1% of casks from Macallan's warehouses are selected — drawn from approximately 16 different sherry-seasoned cask types, a mix of Spanish and American oak. Launched 2014 by whisky maker Bob Dalgarno to showcase the breadth of Macallan's sherry cask programme. The 'rare' designation refers to the extreme selectivity. NAS, 43%.
