Picked this up at The Whisky Show and it was one of my highlights of the day. At 56.5% it's properly punchy but add a few drops of water and you get waves of honey, stewed orchard fruits and a gentle oak spice. Sixteen years in cask has done this Linkwood proud — complex without being overwrought.

I like Linkwood as a distillery and this 2006 vintage doesn't disappoint. Lovely waxy texture with baked apples and vanilla on the nose. At nearly £88 it's not an impulse buy, but for a 16 year old cask strength single malt from a show bottling, I think it's fair enough.
