A confident Swiss single malt with a Madeira cask finish that punches above its six years. At 49.12% ABV and just under £100, the Langatun 2016 is an intriguing bottle for drinkers looking beyond the traditional whisky regions.

I keep telling people not to sleep on Swiss whisky and Langatun is exactly why. This Madeira finish is gorgeous — sticky toffee pudding, red wine gums, toasted oak. Drinks beautifully neat and the 49% ABV is the sweet spot. Yeah it's not cheap but quality rarely is. My favourite bottle I've opened this month.

Nice whisky, no doubt. You get dark berries and a bit of nuttiness on the nose, and the Madeira finish adds a pleasant sweetness. But at close to £100 for a 6-year-old, I think you're paying a premium for the novelty factor. I'd want another year or two in that cask for this price.

The Madeira cask finish really makes this one stand out. Raisins, plum jam, and a hint of dark chocolate on the palate. I drink it neat with a few drops of water to open it up — at 49% it benefits from that. One of the better European single malts I've tried this year.

Look, it's fine. The Madeira influence gives some nice berry sweetness and the ABV is well integrated. But six years is still young and you can taste it — there's a slight roughness underneath. For £99 I can name a dozen Scotch single malts that deliver more complexity.

Picked this up on a whim and I'm genuinely impressed. The Madeira cask gives it this rich dried fruit and toffee thing that I wasn't expecting from a Swiss distillery. At nearly 50% ABV it's got real punch but stays smooth neat. Would happily buy again.
