7.8/10Ichiro's Malt MWR brings mizunara oak influence to a well-crafted Japanese blended malt at 46.5% ABV — distinctive, carefully vatted, and unlike anything in the Western whisky playbook.

12 reviewsThis is what got me into Japanese whisky beyond the usual Hibiki and Nikka suspects. The mizunara oak adds this gorgeous sandalwood and coconut character that's completely unique. I keep coming back to it neat after dinner. Yes it's pricey for a no-age-statement blend but I genuinely think it's worth every penny.

9 March 2026Picked this up on a whim and I'm glad I did, though I probably won't rush to replace it. There's a lovely floral and spicy thing going on from the mizunara cask influence, and at 46.5% ABV it handles a single ice cube really well without falling apart. Nice whisky for when you want something different from your usual Scotch rotation.

22 January 2026Pleasant Japanese blend with some nice woody complexity and a hint of dried fruit on the palate. The mizunara influence gives it an exotic edge you won't find in most blends at this price. That said, at nearly a hundred quid I expected a bit more depth on the finish — it fades quicker than I'd like.

24 October 2025I'd been curious about Ichiro's Mizunara Wood Reserve for ages and finally pulled the trigger. The nose is all sandalwood and incense with this delicate honeyed sweetness underneath. At 46.5% it's got just enough kick to carry those spice notes without burning. Drinking it neat is the only way to go with this one.
