Tasting Notes

Nose

Sweet malted barley, citrus, apricot, honey, light fruits — apple, pineapple — pleasant but simple

Palate

Zesty orange and pear, toffee apple, caramel, banana, vanilla spice — syrupy sweetness, smooth but lacking depth

Finish

Long, creamy — lingering vanilla with toffee and caramel — the first-fill American oak doing most of the work

Expert Review

7/10

Released 2014 to replace the Glenlivet 12 in certain markets — a controversial move. Matured in traditional oak and first-fill American oak casks, designed to honour founder George Smith's 1824 style. NAS, 40%. Smooth and approachable but lacks the complexity of the 12 it replaced. The controversy around NAS replacing age-stated expressions remains a sore point.
