A 10-year-old German single malt that makes a credible case for continental whisky at a premium price point. The Freud Distillers Decade is an interesting, rewarding pour for enthusiasts ready to look beyond the usual regions.

It's fine. Light and fruity with some vanilla, drinks easy at 43%. But I kept waiting for that wow moment and it never came. At this price point I'd rather pick up a Balvenie or a GlenDronach that I know will deliver. Interesting as a curiosity but I wouldn't repurchase.

I've been exploring European whiskies outside Scotland and this Freud 2012 is one of the best I've found. There's a really elegant balance of stone fruit, subtle spice, and clean malt. Ten years of maturation shows real craft here. Yes it's £97 but I think it's worth it for something this well made and this different from the usual suspects.

Had this neat after dinner and it's a perfectly pleasant whisky. Light fruit, some cereal notes, gentle warmth. My issue is it doesn't really have a standout moment — everything is nice but nothing grabs you. For what you're paying I'd want a bit more character from a decade in the cask.

Poured this for my tasting group and nobody guessed it was German. Lovely nose of pear and light spice, and it opens up beautifully with a few drops of water. The finish is clean and medium-length with a hint of toasted oak. At 43% ABV it's sessionable without being thin.

I grabbed this on a whim because I'd never tried anything from a German distillery and honestly it's a pleasant surprise. At 43% it's very approachable neat — got honey, baked apple, and a gentle malty sweetness on the nose. Ten years has done this well. Would happily buy again if the price came down a bit.

I mostly drink this with a single ice cube and it really shines that way — the fruit notes get brighter and there's a lovely biscuity quality underneath. The Distillers Decade bottling feels like a proper showcase of what ten years can do. My wife even liked it and she usually only goes for bourbon. Would make a cracking gift for someone who thinks they've tried everything.

Nice enough dram with some orchard fruit and vanilla coming through, but at nearly a hundred quid I expected a bit more complexity for a 10 year old. It's smooth and easy drinking, sure, but I've had Scottish single malts at half the price that gave me more to think about. Not bad by any means, just hard to justify the premium.
