8/10A bold, cask-strength Colorado rye from Distillery 291, bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company at a punchy 67.8% ABV. Young and unapologetic, it rewards patience and a splash of water with genuine craft character.

20 reviewsPoured this neat and immediately got hit with baking spices and toasted oak — classic young rye character but dialled up to eleven with that cask strength punch. The finish lingers for ages with this dry peppery warmth. Not an everyday sipper at that ABV but perfect when you want something with real presence.

1 April 2026At 67.8% this thing is no joke — I added a few drops of water and it opened up into this gorgeous wave of cinnamon, black pepper, and dried cherry. For a 3 year old it drinks way older than it has any right to. Boutique-y consistently knocks it out of the park with these cask strength picks.

11 March 2026I've been curious about Distillery 291 for a while and this Boutique-y bottling finally gave me a chance to try them. Loads of rye spice up front, then brown sugar and a hint of smoke on the finish. Had to be careful with the 67.8% ABV but a splash of water really tamed it without killing the flavour. Batch 3 is a winner.

20 January 2026Look, it's a solid rye with tons of spice and some nice caramel sweetness underneath, but £93 for a 3 year old is a tough sell when there are older bottles at that price point. That said, the proof is fantastic if you're into barrel strength pours. I sipped it neat over about an hour and it kept evolving in the glass.
