Tasting Notes

Nose

Apple juice and heather honey, vanilla cream, pale hay, wildflower meadow, a tinge of wood smoke — gentle, complex, inviting

Palate

Hazelnut and milk chocolate, peanut butter richness, floral honey, Graham cracker maltiness, bitter almond, sandalwood warmth — surprisingly layered for 40%

Finish

Medium length — smoke residue, black pepper, dry oak tannins, hazelnut skin lingering into a clean cereal fade

Expert Review

7.5/10

The most complex of the Classic Malts — produced through unique flat-topped spirit stills (originally chopped for ceiling clearance, kept for the character they create) and traditional worm tub condensers. Founded 1869 by John Smith, who'd already managed Macallan, Glenlivet, and Glenfarclas. A key malt in Johnnie Walker Black Label.
