30 reviewsPoured this neat first and it was a bit hot and spirity — no surprise at 52.1%. Added a splash of water and suddenly got all this lovely stone fruit and vanilla custard. Really rewarding if you're patient with it. My wife even liked it and she normally won't touch whisky.

14 April 2026I wanted to love this more than I did. The nose is promising with some nice malt and honey but the palate feels a bit young and grainy still. At five years old it probably needs more time in the cask. Might be worth revisiting Chief's Son in a few years when they have older stock.

22 February 2026Look, it's a solid dram with nice vanilla and orchard fruit notes, but £100 for a 5 year old Australian single malt is a tough sell when there's so much competition at that price point. I enjoyed it on the rocks but I'm not sure I'd buy a second bottle.

19 February 2026I've been chasing down Chief's Son bottles for a while and this Boutique-y batch doesn't disappoint. Big tropical fruit and baking spice on the nose, creamy texture, long peppery finish. The cask strength really lets you taste what this distillery is capable of. One of my favourite discoveries this year.

3 February 2026At 52.1% this packs a proper wallop neat, but give it ten minutes and some water and it opens right up — honey, green apple, a bit of malty cereal. Five years old and already showing real character. Boutique-y picked a good one here.
