Tasting Notes

Nose

Barbecue smoke and zesty orange peel, beeswax, stewed apple, minerality, a hint of eucalyptus — unusual for Speyside

Palate

Full-bodied and oily — spice up front, gentle peat smoke, figs, citrus, leather, tobacco, cured meat — an old-fashioned Speysider in the best sense

Finish

Short to medium — honey, cigar tobacco, lingering smoke and subtle spice, the light peat adding dimension without dominating

Expert Review

7.5/10

One of the smallest distilleries in Speyside — just a single pair of stills run by a small team. Closed in 1983, purchased by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail in 1993, and officially reopened by Prince Charles on 15 October 1998. Designed to reflect pre-1960s Speyside character with light peat — historically common but now rare.
