7.9/10Basil Hayden Toast takes the brand's signature light-bodied, high-rye approach and filters it through toasted oak staves and brown rice for a softer, sweeter bourbon that converts sceptics and makes a brilliant Old Fashioned.

18 reviewsThis one really opens up with a single ice cube. You get this lovely sweet toast and honey thing going on, almost like French toast with maple syrup. Smooth finish that doesn't overstay its welcome. I'd buy it again.

2 March 2026I tried this neat first and thought it was nice but unremarkable. Then I made an Old Fashioned with it and the toasted character paired brilliantly with the bitters and orange peel. That caramel sweetness just works. It's now my go-to mixing bourbon for cocktail nights.
3 February 2026Bought this for my partner who's just getting into whisky and it was a hit. Vanilla, toasted marshmallow, hint of cinnamon — nothing harsh at all. The 40% ABV keeps it approachable and we ended up finishing the bottle way too fast.

2 February 2026Nice smooth bourbon with a bread-y, toasted grain character that's a bit different from the standard Basil Hayden. At £92 though, I expected a bit more depth. It's good, just not blow-me-away good for the money.

6 December 2025Nose is all butterscotch and warm bread, which I absolutely love. The palate follows through with vanilla and a gentle oak spice. Not the most complex bourbon I own but it's one I keep reaching for when I just want something comforting.

29 November 2025The toast concept is cool and you can genuinely taste the difference the toasted barrel makes — warmer, more baked goods than the original. My only gripe is at 40% it feels a little watery, especially for what they're charging. Would love to see a barrel proof version.

25 November 2025It's fine. Tastes like a sweeter, softer Basil Hayden which is already on the lighter side. I drink most of my bourbon neat and this just doesn't have the punch I'm after. The £92 price tag is hard to justify when there are bolder bourbons at half the cost.

10 November 2025The toasted barrel finish on this really comes through — loads of caramel and brown sugar on the nose. It's light at 40% but that makes it incredibly sessionable neat on a weeknight. Probably my favourite Basil Hayden expression so far.
