I tried this neat first and thought it was nice but unremarkable. Then I made an Old Fashioned with it and the toasted character paired brilliantly with the bitters and orange peel. That caramel sweetness just works. It's now my go-to mixing bourbon for cocktail nights.

The toast concept is cool and you can genuinely taste the difference the toasted barrel makes — warmer, more baked goods than the original. My only gripe is at 40% it feels a little watery, especially for what they're charging. Would love to see a barrel proof version.

It's fine. Tastes like a sweeter, softer Basil Hayden which is already on the lighter side. I drink most of my bourbon neat and this just doesn't have the punch I'm after. The £92 price tag is hard to justify when there are bolder bourbons at half the cost.

The toasted barrel finish on this really comes through — loads of caramel and brown sugar on the nose. It's light at 40% but that makes it incredibly sessionable neat on a weeknight. Probably my favourite Basil Hayden expression so far.
