Elena Vasquez VIPsAllowed — A bit hot for my taste
6/10

I can appreciate the craft here but at 56.7% it's just a bit too aggressive for what I like in a bourbon. There's good stuff underneath — vanilla, stone fruit, some chocolate — but the heat overshadows it even with water. Not bad, just not for me.

On the rocks this thing is fantastic. The ice tames the proof just enough and brings out this lovely butterscotch and dark fruit character. My wife even liked it and she normally won't touch bourbon. Barrell know what they're doing.

Benjamin Ross VIPsAllowed — Decent pour, steep price

It's a well-made bourbon with nice caramel and cherry notes and a dry oak finish. My issue is the price — north of £90 puts it against some stiff competition. I'd buy it again on sale but probably not at full whack.

For a blend of straight bourbons at cask strength, this is seriously well put together. Big caramel and dried cherry on the nose, with a spicy cinnamon finish that lingers. I sip it neat and it drinks easier than 56.7% has any right to.

Picked this up after hearing the hype and it's solid bourbon, don't get me wrong. Lots of vanilla and toasted oak with some fruit underneath. At £93 though I expected a bit more complexity — it's a touch one-dimensional on the finish for me.

The Vantage is something special. That blend of finishes gives it layers I keep finding — dark chocolate, ripe plum, baking spice, and a gorgeous honey sweetness. Added a few drops of water and it really opened up. This is staying on my shelf permanently.

What sets this apart from other bourbons in this range is the finishing. You get classic bourbon sweetness up front but then these waves of dried fruit and spice that feel more like a good sherry cask scotch. Neat with a rest is the way to go. Really impressed.
