8.2/10A sixteen-year-old Auchroisk from Hunter Laing's Old Malt Cask range, bottled at a confident 50% ABV. An underrated Speyside distillery given the independent treatment it deserves, delivering serious quality at a fair price.

11 reviewsBought this for a tasting night with friends and it was the surprise hit of the evening. Rich maltiness on the nose, then baked apple and cinnamon once you taste it. The 16 years of age really shows in how smooth it is despite being bottled at 50%. Would happily buy another if I spot one.

13 January 2026Picked this up on a whim and it's become one of my favourite bottles this year. At 50% ABV it carries real weight — honey, stewed orchard fruits, and a long spicy finish that just keeps going. Sixteen years in oak has done wonderful things here. Worth every penny of the £92.

30 November 2025Nice enough whisky — creamy texture, toffee and gentle spice on the palate, clean finish. I drink it neat and it handles the 50% well without being hot. My issue is the price tag; for north of ninety quid I expected a bit more depth and personality. It's pleasant rather than memorable.

21 November 2025I've always thought Auchroisk is underrated as a distillery and this Old Malt Cask bottling proves the point. Lovely waxy nose with dried apricot and vanilla, opens up beautifully with a few drops of water. Not the most complex dram I've had at this price but it's very well-balanced and easy to keep going back to.
