Expert Review

7.5/10

An eleven-year-old Ardmore selected by French independent bottler Dumangin, this peated Highland single malt at 48% ABV offers honest quality and regional character at a fair price — a confident dram that rewards patience and attention.

Had this neat after a big Sunday roast and it was perfect for the occasion. Warm spice, a wisp of peat smoke, and a dry finish that doesn't overstay its welcome. The 48% ABV sits right in my sweet spot for sipping whisky.

Shared this with a mate who's just getting into whisky beyond blends and it was a great bridge. The peat is there but it's gentle, more campfire than Islay bonfire. We both preferred it with a few drops of water to open up the citrus notes underneath.

Picked this up on a whim and I'm glad I did. The Dumangin cask treatment gives it a nice fruity sweetness that balances out Ardmore's signature peat. At 48% it's got enough punch to hold up with a splash of water but drinks beautifully neat.

I've tried a handful of indie Ardmore bottlings and this Batch 012 is the best of the lot. The nose is all toffee and gentle woodsmoke, and the palate delivers exactly what the nose promises. Bought one bottle, immediately ordered a second before it disappears.

Don't let the 11 years fool you — this one drinks older. Rich honey and baked apple on the nose, then that classic Ardmore smokiness creeps in on the palate. I've been nursing this bottle for weeks and keep finding new things in it.

It's a good dram, no question. You get that gentle Highland smoke with some orchard fruit and a hint of vanilla on the finish. But at £93 for an 11 year old, I keep thinking I could grab two bottles of something else equally enjoyable.

I'm a fan of Dumangin's selections generally but this one fell a bit flat for me. The smoke and fruit never quite come together — they sort of take turns instead of blending. Not bad by any means, I just wanted more integration at this price point.
