Tasting Notes

Nose

Intense peat, tar, bonfire smoke. A supernova of phenol — the most heavily peated expression in the Ardbeg range. Beneath the overwhelming smoke, iodine, brine and a surprising sweetness — vanilla, lemon. The peat is not just intense but layered, with medicinal, maritime and smoky elements all present.

Palate

Massive and peaty — tar, smoke, iodine, a briny intensity that fills the palate. The phenol level is extreme but controlled, with a sweetness — caramel, malt — providing essential counterbalance. Mid-palate brings smoked meat, dark chocolate and a savoury umami depth. At cask strength, monumental.

Finish

Extremely long, with wave after wave of peat smoke, brine and a lingering medicinal intensity.

Ardbeg at maximum phenol — the most heavily peated whisky the distillery has ever released.
