Expert Review

7.8/10

A cask strength Highland single malt from Aberfeldy, selected by Single Cask Nation and bottled at a robust 59.8% ABV after ten years in bourbon oak. Honest pricing, serious intensity, and a style that rewards a slow pour with water.

At nearly 60% ABV you definitely need to be patient with this one. Straight out the bottle it's a bit of an ethanol punch but give it ten minutes in the glass and you get caramel, orchard fruit, and a touch of oak. I usually drink my whisky neat but this one genuinely benefits from a splash of water. Fair price for a single cask.

Picked this up expecting something special from a single cask bottling and it's solid, just not mind-blowing. Creamy vanilla and some citrus on the nose, decent spice on the finish. For nearly a hundred quid I'd want a bit more complexity at 10 years old, but I've happily poured through half the bottle neat so take that as you will.

Aberfeldy never gets the hype it deserves and this 10 year old single cask is a perfect example of why that's a shame. Rich golden colour, nose is all honeycomb and vanilla pods, taste has this lovely mix of sweet malt and gentle spice. The cask strength really lets you play around with dilution to find your sweet spot. I'd buy another bottle.

At 59.8% this one doesn't mess around. Neat it's all honey, vanilla, and a hit of baked apple — classic bourbon cask stuff but Aberfeldy's waxy character cuts through nicely. Add a few drops of water and it opens right up. Well worth the £97 if you like your Highland malts with some muscle.
