Tasting Notes

Nose

Cherry, orange, cinnamon raisin bread, caramel, vanilla, a hint of bubblegum, rye spice — inviting and warm

Palate

Slightly chewy mouthfeel — honey, vanilla, liquorice, cherry, dried orange peel, roasted oak, caraway seed, cinnamon, nutmeg, green grape — punches above its proof

Finish

Medium — rye spice leading, giving way to sweeter caramel and vanilla as it fades, a solid daily pour

Expert Review

7/10

Named for the year Kentucky became the 15th US state. From Bardstown's oldest fully-operating distillery (established 1879, now owned by Sazerac). High-rye mashbill at 93.7 proof. Originally released as 'Ridgemont Reserve 1792,' later simplified. 196 acres in Bardstown with 29 barrel warehouses. In one notable blind tasting, it outperformed Blanton's.
