Yellowstone Select is the flagship of Limestone Branch Distillery, the Lebanon, Kentucky operation founded in 2010 by brothers Steve and Paul Beam — seventh-generation distillers and direct descendants of both the Beam and Dant bourbon families. When they revived the historic Yellowstone label in 2015, Select became their signature expression.
The bourbon is a marriage of four and seven year old Kentucky bourbons, bottled at 93 proof. The name itself traces back to 1872, when J.B. Dant launched Yellowstone bourbon to coincide with the founding of Yellowstone National Park, and for decades it was among the best-selling bourbons in America.
In the glass it pours a polished amber. The nose leads with toasted caramel and orchard fruit, and the palate answers in kind — honeyed corn sweetness laced with baked apple and vanilla, then darker notes of clove and oak catching on the edges. The finish is unhurried rather than fiery, a slow fade of cinnamon and dry wood.
Select feels like a bourbon built with restraint. It isn't trying to be the biggest bottle on the shelf; it's trying to honour a lineage, and it does so with quiet confidence. For the price, it's an approachable everyday pour that still rewards closer attention.
