Tasting Notes

Nose

Maple syrup, dark caramel, toasted marshmallow, vanilla pod and warm baking spice.

Palate

Rich and sweet — honeyed oak, caramel, dark chocolate, hazelnut, fig and a swirl of cinnamon and clove.

Finish

Long, sweet and oaky, fading through toffee, cocoa and gentle char.

First Impressions

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked takes the classic Woodford Reserve and gives it a second maturation in a freshly charred new oak barrel that has been deeply toasted before a light char.

Distillery & Heritage

Woodford Reserve is made at the historic Labrot & Graham site in Versailles, Kentucky — one of the oldest distilling sites in the state, dating to 1812. Owned by Brown-Forman, it is unusual in Kentucky for using copper pot stills alongside column distillate. Master Distiller Chris Morris created Double Oaked, launching it in 2012.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose is a pastry shop — maple, caramel, vanilla and toasted marshmallow. The palate is plush and sweet, with layers of honeyed oak, hazelnut praline, dark chocolate and dried fig over Woodford's signature spice.

Verdict

One of the most consistently delicious finished bourbons on the market.
