Widow Jane Distillery in Red Hook, Brooklyn, takes its name from the Widow Jane Mine in Rosendale, New York — a source of the exceptionally pure limestone water used to proof the bourbon. The 10 Year Old uses bourbon sourced from Kentucky and Tennessee, proofed with Widow Jane mine water.
The limestone water proofing is the distinctive claim. Whether the water makes a measurable difference to the flavour is debatable, but the ten-year-old sourced bourbon is genuinely excellent — well-selected, properly aged, and with the depth that a decade of maturation provides.
Widow Jane 10 is a well-made, genuinely mature bourbon from one of Brooklyn's most interesting distillery operations. The sourced stock is excellent, the ten-year age statement genuine, and the limestone water story adds intrigue. A quality bourbon from an unlikely address.
