Tasting Notes

Nose

There is definitely a nice hint of orange peel hitting the nose, with a strong hit of vanilla and honey.

Palate

There is a lovely minty taste right at the start. This is followed by a sweetness, somewhat honey flavor, and somewhat of a butterscotch flavor, with a hint of spice. I feel like it ends back at the beginning, with a nice hint of that minty aftertaste.

Finish

110 proof (55% ABV), aged for at least 10 years, with 20% finished in apera barrels, 750ml bottle, MSRP $106.99. Old Bones Rye Whiskey 10-Year Reserve is a very lovely rye whiskey. It has a very nice sweetness to it, and I love the minty beginning and end. It is definitely a fairly strong whiskey, and one that burns a bit when it hits your throat. I feel that the company definitely has the right idea with ‘uncut’ whiskeys and bourbons. I look forward to seeing where they go in the near future.

The Bottom Line

Old Bones Rye Whiskey 10-Year Reserve delivers the goods. It is well-made, genuinely enjoyable, and at $106.99. This rye has a lovely dark reddish color to it represents solid value for what you are getting. I would happily buy this again.
