Tasting Notes

Nose

Honey, vanilla, a gentle malty sweetness. Light and inviting, with a touch of green apple and a delicate floral quality. The gentlest of gentle Speysides.

Palate

Smooth and sweet — honey, vanilla, a gentle cereal warmth. Tlàth — Gaelic for 'gentle' — delivers exactly what the name promises. A touch of citrus and a gentle warmth mid-palate. Almost too smooth — there is barely any friction.

Finish

Short to medium, with honey and a gentle, fading sweetness.

Tomintoul Tlàth is the entry point to the Gentle Dram range — a no-age-statement Speyside malt priced to compete with everyday blends. Tlàth means 'gentle' in Gaelic, and the whisky delivers on the promise with an almost preternatural smoothness. Matured in bourbon casks, it presents Tomintoul's house style at its most accessible and undemanding.

The gentleness is both the appeal and the limitation. Tlàth is one of the smoothest single malts available at any price — a whisky that goes down with virtually no resistance. For newcomers to single malt, this frictionless quality is welcoming. For experienced drinkers, it may feel too polished — the rough edges that give whisky interest have been smoothed away.

Tomintoul Tlàth serves a clear purpose — an affordable, gentle introduction to Speyside single malt that does not intimidate or challenge. At its price, it offers genuine value for money and a reliably pleasant everyday pour. The gentle dram at its most gentle, and proudly so.
