First Impressions
The Whiskymaker's Reserve series is the showpiece for The Lakes Distillery's single malt programme. Each release is a sherry-cask-driven small batch, bottled at cask strength and non-chill-filtered.
Distillery & Heritage
Former Macallan whiskymaker Dhavall Gandhi joined The Lakes in 2017 and brought with him an élevage philosophy — actively managing maturation across a range of European and American oak sherry casks (Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez, red wine). The result is a distinctly English single malt with a heart of dried fruit and oak.
Tasting Notes in Detail
This is a deliberately old-school, sherry-bomb style of whisky. The texture is the standout feature — thick, mouth-coating and indulgent. A drop of water releases more chocolate and stewed dark fruits.
Verdict
Comfortably one of England's finest single malts and a serious rival to the great sherried Speysiders.
