The Distillers Edition programme was launched by United Distillers in 1997 to showcase each of the Classic Malts with a secondary maturation in fortified wine casks. For Talisker, the chosen wood is Amoroso, a sweetened sherry style that brings raisined depth without smothering the distillery's maritime spine.
This 2010 bottling was distilled in 1998 and released twelve years later at 45.8% ABV. Like every Distillers Edition Talisker, it carries the double T code on the rear label denoting the Amoroso finish. The expression has become a perennial favourite among Skye enthusiasts precisely because it bridges two worlds: the sweet, spiced comfort of sherry and the salt-and-pepper attack that defines the house style.
Talisker's spirit has always been well suited to active wood. The five stills at Carbost produce a robust, oily distillate that can absorb sherry influence without losing character. In the Distillers Edition the result is less a transformation than a conversation: the Amoroso adds richness, the peat smoke cuts through, and the sea remains audible in the background.
For drinkers who find the standard 10 Year Old a touch austere, the Distillers Edition offers a gentler introduction to Talisker's fiercer virtues while rewarding long-time admirers with added complexity.
