First Impressions
Toki — meaning 'time' in Japanese — blends single malts from Yamazaki and Hakushu with single grain from Chita. Released in 2016 for international markets, it was designed primarily for the Japanese Whisky Highball — sparkling water, ice, and whisky in a tall glass. The Hakushu malt and Chita grain provide the backbone.
Tasting
The nose is lemon oil with honeysuckle and caramel. On the palate at 43%, sweet malt with bright citrus, honey, and golden raisins. The finish is subtly sweet with vanilla, pepper, and ginger.
The Verdict
Suntory Toki earns a 7 — the number one introduction to Japanese whisky. Light, crisp, and perfect in a Highball. Not complex, but that's the point. At £28, Japanese whisky made accessible for the world.
