Tasting Notes

Nose

Roasted almonds, dried apricot, beeswax, orange marmalade and a touch of leather.

Palate

Nutty and dry — walnut, fig, dark honey, baked apple and toasted oak.

Finish

Medium-long, dry and savoury with hazelnut, raisin and gentle spice.

First Impressions

Solera was one of Starward's earliest signature releases, bottled at 43% and matured (and topped up, solera-style) in Australian apera casks.

Distillery & Heritage

Before the wine-barrel revolution of Nova and Fortis, Solera was Starward's calling card. The solera system means each bottling carries DNA from the very first fill.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose is classically sherried but with an Australian accent. The palate is nutty and dry rather than syrupy.

Verdict

One of the best-value world whiskies on the shelf.
