I have been looking forward to getting my hands on Hercules Mulligan Rum & Rye. Bottled at 43% ABV and priced at $40, it promises genuine character.
Nose
A copper color with a slight orange hue.
Finish
The mouthfeel is slightly viscous. There are major notes of dry citrus, thyme and botanic herbs (Im almost surprised theres no gin, involved but the bitters do some heavy lifting on the flavor here). There is also an ambient presence of honey-like sweetness and a tingle of ginger spice on the finish with neither the whiskey or rum making a major individual impression.
The Bottom Line
Hercules Mulligan Rum & Rye is worth a try if it crosses your path. It may not redefine the category, but it has enough going on to keep things interesting.
