Tasting Notes

Nose

Vanilla, green apple, pear, honey, raisin and a soft floral lift from the Madeira.

Palate

Light-bodied and elegant — apple skin, honeycomb, sultana, custard cream biscuit and a touch of orange peel.

Finish

Clean and gently sweet, with vanilla, apple and a whisper of nutty Madeira richness.

First Impressions

Penderyn's Legend is the friendly handshake of Welsh whisky.

Distillery & Heritage

Penderyn opened in 2000 in the village of Penderyn on the southern edge of the Brecon Beacons, becoming the first commercial Welsh whisky distillery in over a century. They use a unique Faraday still designed by Dr David Faraday — a hybrid pot-and-column arrangement that produces a remarkably clean, high-strength spirit in a single distillation.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The Faraday still gives Penderyn an unmistakable lightness — there's no heaviness, no oily weight, just clean orchard fruit and honey. The Madeira finish layers in raisin, sultana and a faintly nutty sweetness.

Verdict

A lovely introduction to one of the UK's most distinctive distilleries.
