Paul John whiskies are made on the sun-baked coast of Goa, where the Arabian Sea breeze and the high humidity conspire to age spirit at a startling rate. Classic Select Cask is the unpeated cask-strength expression in the core range, drawn from hand-picked bourbon barrels and bottled without chill filtration. It is, in short, Goan single malt with the volume turned up.

The nose is immediately welcoming — honey, ripe banana, vanilla pod and toasted almond, with a whisper of mango lurking in the background. There's a faint hint of coconut from the bourbon wood, and the kind of warm bakery aroma that suggests something good is in the oven.

The palate is creamy and fruit-laden, almost dessert-like in its generosity. Honey and vanilla custard lead, followed by banana bread, milk chocolate and a gentle wave of oak spice. At 55.2% it is unmistakably cask strength, but the texture is so plush and the sweetness so well integrated that the alcohol never bites — just adds presence and warmth. A drop of water teases out tropical fruit and a softer, more delicate floral note.

The finish is long and sweetly contented, fading through vanilla and honey into a soft pepper warmth that lingers comfortably.

Classic Select Cask is everything Indian single malt promises — tropical, expressive, generously textured and impossible to mistake for anything Scottish.
