First Impressions
Old Pulteney has long traded on its self-styled Maritime Malt identity, and the 15 Year Old is the sweet spot of the core range.
Distillery & Heritage
Old Pulteney was founded in 1826 in Wick, once the busiest herring port in Europe, and remains the most northerly mainland Scottish distillery. The 15 is matured in ex-bourbon casks before a finishing period in Spanish oak ex-sherry casks, bottled at 46% without chill filtration, replacing the much-loved 17 in the core range in 2018.
Tasting Notes in Detail
The nose balances Pulteney's signature sea-spray salinity with honeyed sweetness, orange peel and gentle sherry fruit. The palate is rounded and waxy.
Verdict
An elegant, coastal Highland malt that wears its age well.
