Super Nikka was created by Masataka Taketsuru in 1962 — the year his second distillery, Miyagikyo, came online. For the first time, Taketsuru could blend malts from two contrasting distilleries, and Super Nikka was the expression of that achievement. It remains one of Nikka's core premium blends.
The blend draws on Nikka's full resources — Yoichi's coal-fired robustness, Miyagikyo's gentle elegance, and the Coffey still's smooth grain. Taketsuru's original vision — creating a complete Japanese whisky through the blending of contrasting styles — is fully realised in Super Nikka.
Super Nikka is a well-made Japanese blend with genuine historical significance. The blending is accomplished, the quality consistent, and the connection to Taketsuru's original vision gives it meaning beyond the liquid alone. A worthy representation of Japanese blending at its most traditional.
