Tasting Notes

Nose

Wild raspberry, candied citrus peel, plum, apple, coriander seed. Crème brûlée and spiced plum jam. The 74% STR, 19% sherry, 7% Rivesaltes combination creates a nose of genuine complexity.

Palate

Glossy texture — strawberry, baked orange, creamy chocolate, allspice. Crème brûlée, currant and fig. The Rivesaltes component (a fortified wine from southern France) adds an unusual sweetness. At 48.5%, organic and sustainably produced.

Finish

Rich and warming. The multiple cask types sustain with layered fruit and spice.

Nc'nean Quiet Rebels Gordon is named for distillery manager Gordon Wood, who personally selected the cask combination: 74% STR red wine casks, 19% ex-sherry casks and 7% ex-Rivesaltes casks. The Rivesaltes component — a fortified wine from France's Roussillon region — is an unusual and distinctive choice.

Gordon Wood's cask selection creates a whisky of genuine complexity. The dominant STR casks provide the tropical fruit and bright character that defines Nc'nean, the sherry adds dried fruit and spice, and the Rivesaltes contributes a distinctive sweet, fortified-wine quality. The three cask types in carefully chosen proportions create something more interesting than any single wood type alone.

Quiet Rebels Gordon demonstrates the human element behind Nc'nean's whisky-making. Each Quiet Rebels release reflects the personality and palate of a different team member, and Gordon Wood's selection reveals a preference for richness, complexity and multiple layers. A personal expression from a distillery built on people as much as process.
