Tasting Notes

Nose

Burnt citrus peel, sea salt, bonfire. Nectarine syrup, lime marmalade, hay bales. A complex nose for a thirty-pound blend — the 70% malt content shows immediately.

Palate

Puffed rice, homemade rice pudding and white chocolate. Bright citrus and lime pickle cut through the creaminess. The blend of Lowland fruitiness, Campbeltown saltiness and Highland spiciness creates genuine regional breadth.

Finish

Medium, with a mineral feel like crushed sea shells. Orange peel, raisins, pipe tobacco and bonfire smoke. More complex than most blends at twice the price.

Maclean's Nose is Adelphi's blended Scotch — named for the rocky promontory on the Ardnamurchan peninsula and honouring Charles Maclean, whisky writer and Adelphi's Chief Nose. With 70% malt and 30% grain, matured in bourbon and sherry casks, it is a blend with a malt-forward generosity unusual at its price.

The high malt content gives Maclean's Nose a character closer to a blended malt than a standard blend. The component malts draw from across Scotland's regions — Lowland fruitiness, Campbeltown saltiness, Highland spice — creating a blend of genuine breadth and complexity. At 46%, non-chill-filtered, it is presented with the integrity that Adelphi brings to all its bottlings.

The result won Category Winner in the Blended No Age Statement category at the 2024 World Whiskies Awards, and the recognition is deserved. Maclean's Nose delivers more flavour, more complexity and more character than blends costing significantly more. The Adelphi name guarantees quality, the 70% malt content guarantees substance, and the thirty-pound price guarantees value. One of the finest value blends in Scotland.
