The Macallan's Archival Series Folio releases have become one of the distillery's most collected lines since the first volume appeared in 2015. Each Folio draws on a specific chapter of The Macallan's archive, reproducing historic advertisements, press material or design work, and presenting the bottle inside a case made to resemble a hardback book. Folio 6 continues that format, reaching further into the distillery's twentieth-century marketing history.
The whisky inside is a sherry-cask single malt in the house style, drawn from casks at the Easter Elchies estate on Speyside. The Macallan does not publish cask breakdowns or age statements for the Folio series, but the liquid consistently reflects the distillery's commitment to first-fill sherry-seasoned European and American oak.
The nose opens on sweet sherry, vanilla and orange peel, with a light dusting of oak spice. The palate carries raisin, toffee and ginger, the sherry giving depth without overwhelming, and the oak holding a clean line through the middle. The finish is medium-long, warming and gently drying.
Folio releases have always been sold primarily through The Macallan's own channels and have consistently sold out on release. They are pitched at collectors as much as drinkers, but the whisky rewards opening — a recognisably Macallan dram that places the liquid alongside the brand's own history in print.
