Tasting Notes

Nose

Bright and structural — vanilla, candied citrus peel, fresh oak shavings, ginger snap and a whisper of cinder toffee.

Palate

Sweet vanilla and créme brûlée, lemon curd, golden raisin and butterscotch, building into oak spice, ginger and a flicker of liquorice root.

Finish

Long, warming and gently spiced, with vanilla custard and a clean oaky finish.

First Impressions

Released in 2018, Edition No. 4 was the first Macallan to celebrate the people who designed The Macallan Estate — Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (Pompidou Centre, Lloyd's of London, Heathrow T5).

Distillery & Heritage

For Edition No. 4, Sarah Burgess worked with the architects to translate the building's principles into liquid form. The marriage is unusual for Macallan: a much higher proportion of first-fill American oak than Editions 1–3.

Tasting Notes in Detail

This is the cleanest, most architectural Edition in the series. Vanilla and citrus dominate the nose.

Verdict

A bright, modernist Macallan that genuinely reflects its inspiration.
