Tasting Notes

Nose

Sweet vanilla and butterscotch upfront, then orange peel, dried apricot, cinnamon stick and a whisper of fresh ginger.

Palate

Rich and creamy — toffee, candied citrus, milk chocolate and raisin, then a building wave of clove, nutmeg and oak tannin.

Finish

Long, warming, lightly drying with lingering dark chocolate, orange oil and gentle wood spice.

First Impressions

Edition No. 2 arrived in 2016 as the first Macallan Edition built around an external collaboration. The Roca Brothers of El Celler de Can Roca in Girona were invited to Easter Elchies to help select the casks.

Distillery & Heritage

For No. 2, Bob Dalgarno worked with Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca to chose a marriage of seven cask types. Bottled at a meaningful 48.2% ABV, non-chill-filtered and natural colour.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose opens on Macallan's signature sherried sweetness but quickly turns culinary. The palate is layered and structured.

Verdict

A high-water mark for sherried Macallan in the modern NAS era.
