First Impressions

The Classic Cut is Macallan's annual cask strength release, first launched in 2017 as a US-led series before going global. Each yearly edition varies in ABV but always delivers Macallan's sherry-cask DNA at full intensity.

Distillery & Heritage

Founded in 1824 on Easter Elchies estate near Craigellachie, The Macallan is one of Speyside's most revered names. The distillery is famous for its insistence on sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, sourced through its bespoke partnership with Tevasa and Jose Miguel Martin in Jerez.

Tasting Notes in Detail

At cask strength the sherry oak influence amplifies — dried fig, raisin and Seville orange dominate the nose, with chocolate orange and clove on the palate. Water opens it beautifully, releasing vanilla and almond from the American oak component.

Verdict

A connoisseur's Macallan that punches well above its price for the brand. The Classic Cut offers everything fans love about the house style with the added thrill of cask strength delivery.
