Tasting Notes

Nose

Heavy peat, red berry fruit, a gentle wine sweetness. The Pinot Noir finishing adds a distinctive red fruit character to Longrow's dense, coastal smoke. Beneath the peat and fruit, leather, dried herbs and a gentle warmth. Extraordinary.

Palate

Peated and fruity — smoke, red berry, a gentle wine richness. The Pinot Noir casks add raspberry and cherry notes that interweave with the heavy Campbeltown peat in a spectacular combination. Mid-palate brings dark chocolate, smoked fruit and a gentle warmth. At 52.2%, magnificent.

Finish

Very long, with peated fruit and maritime character sustaining in a complex, layered fade.

Longrow Red is Springbank's annual limited release of its heavily peated spirit, finished in different wine cask types each year. The Pinot Noir Cask edition finishes fourteen years of Longrow spirit in casks that previously held Pinot Noir wine — adding a layer of red fruit sweetness that creates one of the most spectacular peat-and-fruit combinations in Scotch whisky.

The Pinot Noir influence is delicate and complementary. The wine casks add raspberry, cherry and a gentle tannic structure without overwhelming the Longrow's naturally dense, maritime peat character. The result is a whisky that manages to be both heavily smoky and beautifully fruity — a combination that sounds improbable but tastes magnificent.

Longrow Red Pinot Noir is one of the finest finished peated whiskies in Scotland. The marriage of heavy Campbeltown peat and delicate Pinot Noir fruit produces something genuinely special — a whisky that demonstrates the transformative potential of creative cask finishing applied to excellent spirit. Each Longrow Red release is allocated and sought-after, and the Pinot Noir edition is among the most celebrated.
