Loch Lomond's Single Grain is one of the few Scottish single grain whiskies available as a standalone product. Distilled in the distillery's Coffey still — a continuous column still that produces a lighter, sweeter spirit than the pot stills — it is matured in American oak and bottled at 46% without chill filtration.

Grain whisky is the backbone of blended Scotch but rarely bottled on its own, which makes this an unusual and interesting offering. The Coffey still produces a spirit that is cleaner and more neutral than malt, with a natural sweetness from the maize and wheat that requires less time in wood to become drinkable.

The nose is sweet and approachable: vanilla, coconut, butterscotch, and light cereal. The palate is smooth and creamy — toffee, vanilla, sweet grain, and gentle oak — with a lightness that makes it an effective cocktail base or a refreshing warm-weather sipper.

The finish is short and sweet, with vanilla and grain fading gently. It is not a whisky for deep analysis, but it demonstrates what grain spirit can achieve when given good wood and proper care. For those curious about the other half of blended Scotch, this is an accessible education.
