8.9 /10
EDITOR
Distillery: Laphroaig
Type: Scotch
Age: NAS
ABV: 48% ABV

Tasting Notes

Nose

Treacle, raisins, dates, espresso, smoked toffee and damp peat.

Palate

Thick and unctuous — molasses, prunes, sticky figs, sweet smoke, dark chocolate and oak char.

Finish

Long, sweet and smoky with lingering raisin, espresso and medicinal phenol.

First Impressions

Pedro Ximenez is the sweetest of all sherry styles. Marry it with Laphroaig's iodine-laden spirit and you get one of Islay's most decadent drams.

Distillery & Heritage

Originally a travel-retail one-litre release, PX Cask follows a triple-maturation path: ex-bourbon American oak, then quarter casks, then a finish in first-fill PX hogsheads from Jerez. Bottled at 48% without chill filtration.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose is dark and treacly — molasses, raisins and espresso wrapped in peat smoke. The palate is unctuous and almost liqueur-like, with sticky dates, prunes and dark chocolate before the medicinal Laphroaig DNA cuts through.

Verdict

A sweet-toothed Islay indulgence.
