Tasting Notes

Nose

Beeswax, dark honey, orange peel, gentle sea smoke, oloroso nuttiness and old oak.

Palate

Silky and complex — toffee, dried apricot, walnut, leather, cigar smoke, salted caramel and a soft medicinal note.

Finish

Very long, elegant and gently smoky with oloroso warmth, dark chocolate and brine.

First Impressions

This is Laphroaig in its Sunday best.

Distillery & Heritage

Released annually in limited cask-strength batches, Laphroaig 25 is vatted from a marriage of first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and oloroso sherry casks. ABV varies year on year but typically sits around 48-52%, and bottle counts are usually only a few thousand worldwide.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose is wonderfully old — beeswax, honey, orange oil, polished oak and just a wisp of sea smoke. The palate is silken and layered, with toffee, dried apricot, walnut and leather giving way to oloroso warmth, salted caramel and cigar ash.

Verdict

A masterpiece of long Islay maturation.
