Tasting Notes

Nose

BBQ smoke, brine, citrus, vanilla, chocolate, orchid fruit — the Guinness adding dark malty depth

Palate

Classic smoke and ash giving way to vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee bean, salted caramel, campfire, sea spray, chilli pepper — peat meets stout

Finish

Long, peaty — chilli pepper, gingerbread, baked apples — the Guinness finish leaving its signature throughout

First Impressions

Lagavulin Offerman Guinness Cask — Whisky Advocate 2021 Whisky of the Year. Guinness stout cask finish on Lagavulin. 11 years, 46%.

Tasting

Smoky chocolate nose. Peat, dark chocolate, and coffee palate. Long peaty finish with gingerbread. Peat meets stout — perfectly.

The Verdict

Lagavulin Guinness Cask earns an 8.5 — a triumphant marriage that won Whisky of the Year. At £200 secondary, premium. But the stout + peat concept is genius. Now largely sold out.
