Tasting Notes

Nose

Traditional Jim Beam — caramel, peanut butter, vanilla, honey-roasted nuts, oak spice, dried apricot, sweet tobacco leaf, all 100 proof points showing

Palate

Caramel and brown sugar — rye spice, barrel char, vanilla, dried red apple, roasted oak, orange peel, cinnamon, clove, mocha, dark chocolate, the nine years of oak adding weight and depth

Finish

Long — capsaicin spice growing rapidly, oak and char building, dryness, turning to ginger snaps, bold and unapologetic

First Impressions

Knob Creek — one of four bourbons in Jim Beam's Small Batch Collection alongside Basil Hayden's, Baker's, and Booker's. Nine years in new charred American oak, bottled at 100 proof. Created by legendary Master Distiller Booker Noe to recapture the bold, pre-Prohibition bourbon character.

Tasting

The nose is caramel, peanut butter, and honey-roasted nuts. On the palate at 50%, caramel and brown sugar with rye spice and barrel char. The finish is long with growing spice and oak.

The Verdict

Knob Creek 9 earns an 8 — dark, sweet, and roasty at 100 proof. Booker Noe's vision of pre-Prohibition boldness delivered at an accessible price. At £32, serious bourbon for serious drinkers.
