Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich caramel, charred oak, dried cherry. Twelve years have given this bourbon genuine maturity. Beneath the sweetness, vanilla, leather, a gentle nuttiness. The Beam house character — that distinctive peanut note — is refined into roasted walnut. Impressive.

Palate

Full-bodied and mature — dark caramel, dried fruit, a robust oak spice. The twelve years have added layers of complexity that the standard 9 Year Old cannot match. Mid-palate brings dark chocolate, cinnamon and a generous warmth. At 100 proof, excellent body.

Finish

Long, with mature oak and dark caramel sustaining satisfyingly.

Knob Creek 12 Year Old represents the sweet spot in Beam's Small Batch Collection. Where the standard 9 Year Old provides a solid foundation and Baker's offers single-barrel individuality, the 12 Year Old adds the one ingredient that cannot be shortcut: time. Twelve years in Beam's warehouses have produced a bourbon of genuine depth and complexity.

The additional three years over the standard Knob Creek make a material difference. The oak integration is more complete, the Beam nuttiness has developed into something richer and more refined, and the dried fruit and chocolate notes that emerge with extended maturation add genuine complexity. At 100 proof, the flavours arrive with full conviction.

Knob Creek 12 is one of the best-value age-statement bourbons available. At its price, a twelve-year-old, 100-proof bourbon from one of Kentucky's most historic distilleries represents extraordinary quality for money. The depth, complexity and satisfying richness place it among the finest expressions in the Beam portfolio.
