Knappogue Castle 14 Year Old Twin Wood takes the brand's signature triple-distilled single malt and gives it a second act. After twelve years in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, the spirit is transferred to oloroso sherry casks for a further two years of maturation — the 'twin wood' that gives the expression its name.
Bottled at 46% ABV and non-chill-filtered, it carries noticeably more weight and texture than the 12 Year Old. The bourbon foundation contributes vanilla, honey and orchard fruit, while the oloroso finish layers in raisin, nut and dark sugar without ever overwhelming the malt itself.
The expression has been a regular award winner since its launch, including double gold and best-in-class honours at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and recognition at the World Whiskies Awards. It is widely regarded as one of the best-value aged Irish single malts on the market.
For drinkers who enjoy the gentleness of Irish malt but want a touch more sherry-driven richness, this is the natural next step from the 12. It is also a beautifully balanced winter dram — pour it after dinner with something dark and bitter, like a square of 70% chocolate.
