Tasting Notes

Nose

Toffee apples, buttery croissants, brown sugar. Marmalade and white flowers. The four-province blend creates genuine breadth from a modest price.

Palate

Caramel milk chocolate, honeyed apples, white peppers. Creamy vanilla. The composition — 60.8% grain, 30.8% malt, 2.6% peated malt, 5.8% pot still in sherry — adds unusual complexity. Four different whiskey styles from four Irish provinces.

Finish

Smooth and warming — the pot still and peated components add subtle depth.

Kirker & Greer Shamrock is a Belfast-based blended Irish whiskey that sources spirits from all four provinces of Ireland. The blend combines 60.8% grain (bourbon cask), 30.8% malt (bourbon cask), 2.6% peated malt (bourbon cask) and 5.8% pot still (oloroso sherry cask) — an unusually complex recipe for a budget Irish blend.

The four-component blend creates genuine interest. The grain provides smooth sweetness, the malt adds cereal depth, the peated malt contributes a subtle smoky warmth, and the pot still in sherry adds a spicy, dried-fruit richness. Few blends at this price attempt such complexity.

Kirker & Greer Shamrock is a well-made, well-priced Irish blend with more going on than its modest cost suggests. The four-province, four-style concept adds genuine character, and the quality of the component whiskeys is genuine. Good value for an everyday Irish pour.
