Kavalan's relationship with the great sherry bodegas of Jerez gives them access to genuine ex-bodega PX butts. Combined with the accelerated maturation of subtropical Taiwan, even relatively young PX Solists drink like 30-year-old highland sherry monsters. The PX Solist took World's Best Single Cask Single Malt at the 2016 World Whiskies Awards.
Tasting Notes in Detail
The colour alone tells you what's coming — mahogany verging on espresso. The nose is pure PX cask: raisin, fig, date, walnut, leather and dark coffee. The palate is viscous, almost chewable.
