Tasting Notes

Nose

Intense tropical fruit, vanilla, a rich bourbon-oak sweetness. The cask strength amplifies everything — mango, passion fruit, pineapple, coconut. Beneath the fruit, caramel, a gentle spice and a warm, oak-rich depth. Extraordinary.

Palate

Dense and tropical — mango, caramel, vanilla, a coating richness. The single cask at cask strength delivers the full force of subtropical maturation — every flavour concentrated and vivid. Mid-palate brings dark toffee, roasted nut and a gentle warmth. Water opens further layers of fruit.

Finish

Very long, with tropical fruit and bourbon-oak sweetness sustaining magnificently.

The Kavalan Solist series represents the pinnacle of the distillery's range — single cask bottlings at cask strength that showcase the full potential of Kavalan's subtropical maturation. The Ex-Bourbon Single Cask is matured entirely in ex-bourbon barrels, allowing the tropical fruit character of the spirit and the vanilla sweetness of the American oak to express themselves without the competition of sherry or wine wood.

The subtropical Taiwanese climate is the engine of Kavalan's character. Yilan's heat and humidity drive an angel's share of around 12% per year, but what remains in the barrel is intensely concentrated — tropical fruit, vanilla and oak flavours compressed into a spirit of extraordinary density. At cask strength, this concentration is presented without dilution, and the effect is remarkable.

Kavalan Solist Ex-Bourbon is one of the world's finest single cask whisky experiences. The purity of the bourbon-cask maturation reveals the distillery's tropical character at its most vivid, and the cask strength presentation delivers it with maximum impact. Each single cask is unique, which adds an element of discovery to every bottle. For whisky lovers seeking intensity, quality and a genuine sense of place, this is essential drinking.
